On behalf of the European Fencing Confederation I am pleased to welcome the participants and guests of the European Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships.
Competitions of young athletes are always special. It is at such tournaments that new names are discovered and new sports stars rise – future challengers of the present-day leaders. I am sure that this tournament is no exception.
European fencing traditions are among the strongest globally; the level and skills of the European fencers provide their deserved leadership in the World of fencing. That is why we expect bright, tough and spectacular matches.
This year the European Championships are taking place in Sochi, a city, which has become one of the recognized sports centres not only in Russia, but also on a global scale.
I am confident that organizers’ experience will enable them to hold one of the major European fencing events at the highest level, while spectators and fans will go into the atmosphere of uncompromising but fair struggle for the titles of the strongest fencers in Europe.
On behalf of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation and on my behalf, I would like to welcome all the participants, organizers and guests of the European Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships in Sochi!
This event to be held in Russia’s southern capital will gather the strongest young fencers from all over Europe. We are greatly honored to have the right to organize such a major tournament and I am especially glad as a fencer that it is our country that will host these competitions with young athletes contending for the top European titles.
The Championships participants and guests will, undoubtedly, be pleased with both the venue and the organization level. I am confident that we will see many enthralling fencing bouts and fully enjoy the atmosphere of such a wonderful sport as fencing.
I wish all the fencers best of luck and good support from spectators!
The city of Sochi has once again got the right to organize a major international sporting event. In 2018, the Olympic capital will play host to the European Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships.
Fencing is a noble, beautiful and, I would say, knightly sport. It combines a technique based on the balance of strength and speed, a philosophy, whereas a fencing bout as such represents, first of all, a battle of characters.
I am confident that the European Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships will be a great and memorable event, and many of its participants will, over time, become world sport stars and earn the world’s most prestigious awards.
I wish all the young athletes the unforgettable experience and victories gained in a fair contest.
On behalf of the Russian Fencing Federation, I would like to welcome all the participants and guests of the European Junior and Cadet Championships.
We try to pay great attention to the development of fencing among young people as we understand that those who today have just started out in world-class sports will, in a few years, contend for major fencing titles at the European and World Championships and the Olympic Games. I hope that this event will be a good starting point for many of its participants in their sport career.
Russia has a great experience in hosting major fencing tournaments and I am, therefore, confident that the European Championships in Sochi will be organized at the high level and become a real sport festival.
I wish all the athletes best of luck on the fencing piste, and spectators and guests the unforgettable experience and great emotions from the enthralling fencing bouts between Europe’s strongest junior and cadet fencers, as well as from their stay in one of the most beautiful cities of Russia!
